Red Shiner Cyprinella lutrensis Schools of unidentified fish were known from streams in the Park woods in the early 1990s, but were apparently exterminated by construction disturbances and stream pollution in the late 1990s. In April 1999 several members of the Department of Biology went a short distance downstream across Friendly Avenue and collected species of fish which were released into two stream locations in the Park woods. This species, the Red Shiner, is native to the central United States but is widely naturalized in the east. About 20 individuals were released in streams in the Park woods in April 1999.
